More From Your Engine

What Is ECU Remapping?

Your vehicle’s ECU controls how the engine operates. An ECU remap changes the calibration of those settings to alter how the vehicle delivers power, torque and response.

At Nightfall Automotive, we use professional tuning and diagnostic equipment to work with the vehicle’s existing ECU calibration and apply a solution suited to the individual vehicle.

Whether you’re looking for stronger performance, improved drivability or a more responsive vehicle, we can discuss the options available for your car before carrying out any work.

  • Power

    Increase available engine performance.

  • Torque

Improve the way torque is delivered throughout the rev range.

  • Response

Sharper throttle response and improved drivability.

Common Questions

ECU Remapping FAQ

Will an ECU remap damage my engine?

A calibration should be appropriate for the vehicle and its condition. We assess the vehicle and discuss its requirements before carrying out tuning.

Do I need a Stage 2 remap?

Not necessarily. Stage 1 is designed around standard vehicles, while Stage 2 is generally intended for vehicles with suitable supporting hardware. We can discuss which option is appropriate for your vehicle.

Can you remap my car at home?

Yes. Nightfall Automotive provides a mobile service across Norfolk, Suffolk and Essex, subject to vehicle and job requirements.

Can you check my car before remapping?

Yes. Diagnostic checks will be carried out before tuning so existing faults or issues can be identified.

Do I need to tell my insurer?

Yes. An ECU remap is a modification to the vehicle, so you should declare it to your insurance provider. Not declaring a modification could affect your cover.

Can a remap be put back to standard?

Yes. If Nightfall Automotive carried out the remap, the vehicle can be returned to its original calibration for a small fee. If the remap was done elsewhere, we can look at sourcing and installing a stock file for the vehicle, which costs more.

Will a remap affect my warranty?

It can. A remap is a modification and may affect a manufacturer or extended warranty. If your vehicle is still under warranty, we recommend checking your warranty terms before going ahead.

How much does an ECU remap cost?

Stage 1 remapping starts from £199 and Stage 2 from £250. Final pricing depends on the vehicle and the work required.
